Privacy Settings Help
Upated January 2025
Several folks have said their images stopped showing up on the map; in most cases, it was a privacy issue.
Do all of this through the Flickr website on a desktop/laptop/tablet.
Step 1: confirm privacy is the problem
- When logged in, view a geo-tagged photo, and confirm the map/location appears
- Should be below/right of the image, below views/favs/comment counts, and above the list of groups
- Can you see the little map/location when logged out of Flickr? Try one of the following:
- Open the photo page in another browser, where you aren't logged into Flickr
- Log out of Flickr and reload the photo page
- Open a private / incognito window and reload the photo page
- If you cannot see the map when looking at your photo page when logged out of Flickr, privacy settings are the problem, continue to Step 2
Step 2: confirm you're a member of the Railfan Atlas group
- Open the Railfan Atlas group page.
- Tap the "Join" button up top, or confirm it already says "Joined."
Step 3: prevent this from happening again
Step 4: update settings on your photos
- Open the Organizer
- Drag photos from the bottom bar into the main area (it'll make sense when you see it)
- Hint: select multiple by selecting the first photo, by clicking, then, when selecting another photo, holding down the shift key
- Tap the "Location" menu up top
- Tap "Change Geoprivacy"
- Select "Anyone (Recommended)"
- Tap "Change Permissions"
- Tap "Send to Group"
- Select "Railfan Atlas"
The Railfan Atlas group is continually rescanned for new photos to add to map, but the process takes a couple of days to complete a cycle - your photos should appear on the website within 48 hours.
